Microsoft Word lost in recovery.Didn't mean to start a new forum but couldn't figure out how to find one to solve my problem(s). Several months ago my computer would crash occasionally when I tried to go onto Internet (dial-up connection). When I restarted I would get a message that my computer had gone through a severe problem and I should contact someone at Microsoft, which I didn't do because the listed cause of the problem was too complicated to understand. Then not long ago the computer began crashing almost every time I tried to log onto internet. Figuring someone had placed some malicious bug on my hard drive that Avira antivirus could not detect, I did a full recovery using the Presario_RP(E:) drive already in the computer. The crash problem has apparently been solved but, unfortunately, I lost Microsoft Word during the process. Tried to question Microsoft about it through their problem solving department but found those bloodsuckers would charge me $59 just for asking the question. I am now using WordPerfect for documents but prefer Microsoft Word only because most of my important documents are written in that format. I do have 5 system recovery discs I made when the computer was first purchased. Can I use these to get back Word, and if I do will I lose all the documents now in the WordPerfect format? Any helpful suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Bawbeese |

Install Word

Install Word again, just like you did the first time.
I fear you are the only person who knows what is on your 5 system recovery disks, if you made them. I certainly don't know. How did you make them? In theory, if Word is on them, then restoring from them should reinstate Word.
Word can read WordPerfect documents, although the formatting may not always be perfect.
No can do

I would love to install Word again but the problem is Microsoft Word was already installed on my computer when I bought it and there were no accompanying program disks
Guess I'm going to have to use those five recovery disks and take my chances on losing everything put on Drive C since the full recovery.
By the way, I made them using the recovery partition of the Recovery CD/DVD creator application of my Compaq Presario S0000/8000.
Thanks for your advice.

Recovery

There should be a simpler way to restore the computer directly from the recovery partition. If not, perhaps the disks are your best bet.
