Cannot open JPG files on desktop using Windows Picture and Fax viewer

Thu, 2009-10-29 06:03 by Flyingwriter · Forum/category:

When I double click an image file, i.e. a .jpg or .png file, on the Desktop, I see the Picture and Fax viewer flash open and instantaneously close. If I select Office Viewer (or any other picture program) as the default viewer, no problem - the picture stays open until I close it. But if I re select the Win Fax viewer again as the default viewer, the picture just flashes open and immediately closes. Very frustrating.

Windows Script Host

Sat, 2009-10-24 16:44 by admin · Forum/category:

Windows Script Host is a runtime engine for several script programming languages.

Wikipedia says there following here:

"Windows Script Host is distributed and installed by default on Windows 98 and later versions of Windows. It is also installed if Internet Explorer 5 (or a later version) is installed."

The same article explains here, which versions of Windows contain which version of WSH.

Can't start windows xp

Tue, 2009-10-06 18:08 by Boris · Forum/category:

Hi. Well, yesterday my windows xp just refused to boot.
Not really refused, but it just shows black screen with cursor (that one - "_") flashing after that windows logo with blue line.
Neither safe mode, nor last succesful configuration work.
I have another windows xp on another hard drive (the one not working on "d", the working one on "c", I'm not really sure if these are physically different drives). It works fine. When I open "d" drive everything seems fine there too. CureIt (free drweb utility) finds no viruses.

Upgrading to IE 7 problems

Fri, 2009-08-28 00:56 by COLC · Forum/category:

I hope I have posted in the correct area.
I have recently formatted a HP laptop, when I tried to upgrade to IE7 it always fails, Explorer tries to load but immediately disappears, I have restored and tried again several times with same result.
I have an identical laptop that has upgraded successfully.
Does any one have any ideas?

Windows setup problem after reformat.

Wed, 2009-08-19 23:14 by cenofett · Forum/category:

Ive been a long time lurker but not very often do i post.

I have this problem with an HP computer that i am trying to setup a fresh install of Windows on.
Basically go to the bios and have the CD-drive become the 1st boot device with the Windows disc in there.

Windows goes through the setup processs (press F8, delete old partition, wait for format to finish, etc)
everything goes fine during that process, all the drivers and stuff install fine no errors occurring at all.

So that process goes fine, then it gets to the point where the computer has to restart and enter Windows setup.

Boot.ini

Fri, 2009-08-14 15:27 by tjemery1958 · Forum/category:

At boot-up I get a black screen that says "Invalid Boot.ini File". How do I access the file to see what is in it or to change it so I don't get the error message any more. It seems as though my PC takes about 5 minutes to boot since I started getting the error message. Any help would be appreciated

cannot find shares by name, only by IP

Wed, 2009-08-12 16:26 by DvdB · Forum/category:

ello,
today I found a problem that seems a little odd to me. The situation is the following; on a Windows 2008 network, several clients are part of the domain, all without errors or any problems of note; except a laptop.

This laptop is also part of the domain, it has a connection to all printers that the server offers and in the network environment, the server and all workstations can be found.
